Church Picnic

On Sunday, September 9, we invite you to join us for a casual Sunday and church picnic. The members of Valle de Esperanza Iglesia Bautista, our Hispanic partner church, will be joining us for worship and the picnic. We encourage everyone to dress casually. Not only will you be comfortable, you will also be ready to transition to the picnic following the worship
service.

Everyone is invited for this time of food and fellowship. If possible, bring a lawn chair, picnic blankets, and outside games. The Family Ministry Team would also like everyone to bring a side dish or dessert. The church will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, and drinks. There is a sign-up sheet in the children’s hallway to help with set up, cooking and clean up.

Mark your calendar for September 9. This is a day you can worship, have a good meal, and enjoy good fellowship!

Blessing of the Students

As part of the Blessing of the Students on Sunday, August 12, members were  encouraged to select the name of a student to pray for and build a relationship with during the upcoming school year.

If you have not had the opportunity to pick a student to pray for this year, please come to the vestibule this Sunday, August 19 to obtain one or contact Robin in the church office. Also, if you picked up a student card last Sunday
and did not put your name on the sheet, please let Robin know who you have.

The Saintly Senior Sojourners will be hosting a day trip to the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, N.C. on Wednesday August 8, 2018. We will be leaving the church at 8:00 am sharp and returning by 6:00 pm. The estimated individual cost to charter a bus is $40.00 per person. This trip is open to all church family as well as your own family and friends. The library tour is free. An onsite restaurant is available for lunch as well as a store for your shopping pleasure – the only other out-of-pocket expenses.

If you would like to be part of this fellowship trip, please let Robin or Jim know by noon on Friday July 6, 2018.  We need to know early how many are going so that we can charter the right size bus (up to 57 passengers).  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a bus full of sojourners!  Thanks, and all God’s blessings to you.

Food Collection Drive – Yates Association

Thanks for your response to the food drive for the Yates Association Food Pantry.  The shelves are filling up.  They no longer need beans (of any kind) or corn.  At this point, the greatest need is for:

  • Juice and juice boxes

  • Jelly Cereal
  • Canned meat

You may bring your donations by Sunday, June 17.  You may leave donations in the brown bins outside the Hospitality Room or bring them to the church office during the week.  Thanks in advance for your generosity in continuing to meet the needs of hungry people in our city.  Please note that outdated food items should not be included, so please be sure to check the expiration dates on food items.  🙂

Shipwrecked – VBS 2018 – Opportunities to Serve!

Shipwrecked – VBS 2018
July 15 – 20
Rescued By Jesus

Can you imagine children having fun while they worship and learn about God?  Come and experience it at this year’s Shipwrecked VBS which is open to  children ages 3 – rising 6th grade and will be held Sunday, July 15 – Friday, July 20 from 5:20 pm – 8:20 pm.

At this year’s Vacation Bible School, we will help children explore these awesome biblical truths:

  • When you’re lonely… Jesus rescues!
  • When you worry… Jesus rescues!
  • When you struggle… Jesus rescues!
  • When you do wrong… Jesus rescues!
  • When you’re powerless… Jesus rescues!

God has laid before us an awesome opportunity to share His love and grow His Kingdom. Will you join us at this year’s VBS by sharing your God-given gifts and abilities to help reach the hearts of children and families in our community? Volunteers are needed to serve as Crew Leaders, Station Rotation Leaders (Bible Story, Games, Imagination Station Crafts/Gizmos, Missions and/or Kid-Vid), and as members of the Decorating Team, Prayer Team, Registration & Hospitality Team, Security Team, Kitchen Team, Technology & Sound Team, Set-Up/Clean-Up Crew, and Media Team (photographer/videographer).

We are grateful for the times you have answered the call to Hope Valley’s Bible School ministry in the past, and we look forward to serving with you as we help young people (and adults) discover the wonder of what it means to be Rescued by Jesus at Shipwrecked VBS! Registration is open for Volunteers and Participants—so don’t delay—register today!

Shipwrecked VBS Training Sessions

Because we want to ensure you are as prepared as possible for our island excursion, we will offer three Wednesday Evening Training Sessions from 6:30-7:30 pm beginning on May 30 to help Crew Leaders and Station Leaders study the Bible points and stories in greater detail. Stay tuned for more information!
