InAsMuch Projects – April 20, 8:00AM

APRIL 20 will be a “happening” day for our church. The missions team has planned some exciting projects for you We hope that you will be willing to stretch and step out to serve our neighbors who are in need. We are asking everyone to sign up on the bulletin board in the children’s hallway and join us for a morning of fellowship and service. Before starting the projects, a light breakfast will be served followed by a devotion by Pastor Bill.

The Opportunities:

Work at the DURHAM RESCUE THRIFT STORE on Chapel Hill Blvd to sort and stock donated goods. Workers need to be at least 12 years of age. Just bring a willing heart and a smile. A good project for families with youth.

Pack hygiene kits for residents of MCDOUGAL TERRACE APTS. We will assemble toiletry kits on Saturday morning and then deliver these kits to the social worker at the  apartments. We hope to prepare at least 300 kits for these kids and families. This would be a good project for less mobile members and for whole families.

Write notes of appreciation and encouragement to the staff at JORDAN HIGH SCHOOL. We will use church stationery and these will be hand delivered to their school mailboxes. A sample note will be available to guide you in writing your notes.

Visit two RETIREMENT CENTERS : Emerald Pond at 10 AM and Durham Regent at 11 AM. We will sing with the residents, visit with them, and share a brief devotional.

Make blankets for the LENNOX BAKER CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. This team will make fleece blankets by tying a series of square knots around the edge of the blankets. We hope to make around a dozen blankets. Many of these children have developmental issues which require repeated treatments and would love a blanket. All materials will be provided for this project.

Pack BACK HOME BOXES for soldiers who are stationed overseas. We will be filling boxes with snack foods and hygiene items to be shipped to our soldiers. We will be collecting the items for these boxes between now and April 20th. Please see the list at the bottom of this page for items we need donated!

Host a Block Party/Cookout for OAK CREEK VILLAGE APARTMENT residents. A hot dog cookout with chips, lemonade and cookies will take place at 11 am at the field behind the Oak Creeks Apartments on Garrett Road. This will be an opportunity to get acquainted with the residents. We would like to start out with games like Frisbee throwing, face painting, bubbles, hula hoop, soccer and then share a lunch with them. Many of the residents are in a ESL program sponsored by another ministry and will be encouraged to attend this cookout and practice their English. This is another good project for whole families.

Bake Casseroles for the CARING CENTER in Durham. We will bake and freeze casseroles that will be used by the residents who stay briefly at this overnight center for Cancer patients from Duke Hospital. Casseroles need to be prepared before April 20th and delivered on or before that date. The casseroles should also be labeled with contents, and instructions of how to warm up.

Do Paint and repair work at the IHN DAY HOUSE. We will be painting, repairing some woodwork, hanging mini‐blinds, doing yard work, and organizing two storage rooms.

There is an opportunity for everyone to participate in some way and we hope that you will find your place.
